Google

In my opinion,Google is overpriced. Do they really have what it takes to be the company they are made out to be?
Granted that the momentum is with Google now, but are they strategically poised to take over?
Will Microsoft be sitting around and twiddling their thumbs ?

I think that Google should reach 600 not in the distant future. No, I did not smoke dope today.
Reasons:
There is yet to be a strong challenge for Google's Ad Revenues. Everytime you type google.com, google's music server at their private office plays 'cha-ching'.
Log in to hotmail, you will see some lousy big-letter block ads on the right side, that you won't even feel like clicking it. Do you remember seeing any ads when using Yahoo's email account? Me neither!

Google is already providing so many services for free, so MS is scratching its head to figure out how to attack them. MS cannot give away Ad service for free, there has to be enough people to glance at them.

Organizing the world's information has just started. The competition is going to be fierce, but Google has a huge advantage since the 2nd in line is limping.

So, why 500? Well, why 400 now? If you can explain that, then I would say that they are still growing at a similar pace, so 500 is not unreasonable. If you can comment and explain why it is overpriced, then you may wait for my reply :)

It appears that Microsoft did not want to invest in AOL. That was the reason for Time Warner going with Google. Given that AOL has been such a laggard in the recent past, this infusion of money ..from a short term point of view works well for Time Warner..
Google would have lost a lot of AOL had gone Microsoft's way. So it was in their interest to get this deal at any cost..
Doesn't hurt having a few billion lying around ;-)

here is some more spice..

Bear Stearns analysts speculated in a research report last month that consumers soon would see the "Google Cube," a small hardware box that could allow users to move songs, videos and other digital files between their computers and TV sets. Larry Page, Google's co-founder and president of products, will give a keynote address Friday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Analysts suspect Page will either show off a Google computing device or announce a partnership with a big retailer to sell such a machine.

Google censors itself for China

Leading internet company Google has said it will censor its search services in China in order to gain greater access to China's fast-growing market.
Google has offered a Chinese-language version of its search engine for years but users have been frustrated by government blocks on the site.

The company is setting up a new site - Google.cn - which it will censor itself to satisfy the authorities in Beijing.

Google argued it would be more damaging to pull out of China altogether.

Google, Feds Battle over Customer Info

Internet search giant Google Inc. confirmed Thursday that it is resisting a Bush administration request to review Google customer search habits.

The administration, via the U.S. Department of Justice, has asked Google for several days worth of activity at its main search site.

The million or so queries the government seeks are to serve as raw material to test the effectiveness of commercially-available Web content filters, according to legal documents seen by eWEEK.

The test results, plus an examination of how often a Google user encounters porn, will serve as evidence in an upcoming trial that could breath new life into a child online privacy law.

>> Double standard is what I call it..

All this after they promisingly said "do no evil" when they IPO'ed.

Hope they fall flat to the ground
